RVing can be an amazing experience that will provide you and your family with many fond memories. Make sure those memories are positive by getting everything properly prepared.

Emergency Kit

Anytime you plan on getting into a vehicle to drive for an extended period of time it is incredibly important that you always have an emergency kit in your car. You never know what is going to happen on the road, so getting an emergency roadside kit to leave in your trunk or RV storage is a great idea. These kits often include things like road flares, spare tire changing tools, bandages, sanitizer, and many other essential safety items. These kits are available in premade packages at some stores or online retail locations, or you can assemble your own using an emergency checklist.

Water

If you are going to be going on a long road trip in an RV, then it is smart to make sure that you top up your water supply before you head out. Water for drinking is essential, but if you want to cook, shower, or use the washroom in your RV, then you will need to get water for that as well. Some RV parks have water hookups and dumping stations for your RVs waste water tank.

Power

One of the most important things you need to consider when taking your RV on a long trip is your power supply. While your RV is ca[able of generating its own power when the engine is running, unless you plan on idling your RV for the entire trip, you are going to need an alternative source of power. Some RV hookup locations do have power hookups, but you will not always be able to enjoy this luxury depending on where you travel. RV enthusiasts discuss powering your RV using an external generator, in order to avoid overusing your RV battery. This can provide you with a reliable power source when you are stopped to set up camp for the night no matter where you are. There are a huge variety of different generators, so be sure to explore all your options before picking one to purchase.

Food

Unless you plan on eating all your meals from takeout locations, another thing that you should consider stocking up on before you embark on your trip is food. Depending on whether you have a fridge or freezer in your RV, you will probably want to lean towards purchasing non-perishable items. This will avoid any food going bad and getting wasted on your trip. Some RVs also have propane gas tanks in them so you are able to cook and barbeque. Always remember to avoid cooking while driving, since it is incredibly hazardous for the driver and passengers.

Fuel

In order to actually get your RV moving you need to have gas in the tank! Fueling up should always be the first part of any long road trip since in some cases you might have long stretches where there are very few gas stations. Some RVs have extra gas storage capabilities, so be sure to always keep extra fuel in your tank when possible.
