Hong Kong is a city that never sleeps and is known for its breathtaking skyline, vibrant street life, and, of course, incredible food. But what if you could enjoy mouthwatering dishes while soaking up stunning views? That’s where **rooftop restaurants** come into play! Whether you’re in the mood for a fancy cocktail or a casual dinner, there’s a rooftop hideaway waiting for you. So, put on your best pants (or keep the shorts; we’re not judging) and let’s dive into the top rooftop restaurants in this dazzling metropolis.

The Peak Lookout

Located near the famous Peak Tram, The Peak Lookout is not just another eatery with a view—it’s a place where you can truly savor the essence of **Hong Kong** dining. Offering a delightful mix of **Western and Asian cuisines**, this restaurant is the perfect spot to unwind after a long day.

The atmosphere? Think of it as a charming blend of rustic and elegant, with wooden beams and cozy furnishings. As you sip on your drink, keep an eye out for the occasional paragliders soaring over the skyline. The menu boasts various delectable dishes, including **grilled steaks** that would make even the most seasoned carnivore swoon. Don’t forget to try their signature dessert: coconut pudding that will make your taste buds tango!

<h3)ozone at="" the="" ritz-carlton<="" h3="">For those who think that **the higher, the better**, Ozone boasts the title of the highest bar in the world, perched on the 118th floor of The Ritz-Carlton. This glamorous venue offers not only a dazzling view of the **Hong Kong skyline** but also a cocktail list that reads like a love letter to mixology.

Their “Sky High Cocktails” are a must-try, such as the “Dramatic Sunrise,” which is as vibrant as the city itself. Pair your drink with some small plates, like the **uni and foie gras tart**—a dish that sounds fancy but is pure indulgence. If you’re feeling adventurous, ask the staff to whip you up something off the menu; they love showing off their bartending skills!

SEVVA

If you’re looking for a rooftop restaurant that does it all—breathtaking views, delicious cuisine, and a hint of **extravagance**—SEVVA should be on your list. Located in the heart of Central, this establishment serves a unique mix of **Asian and Western dishes**, with a chic decor that screams “Instagram me!”

One standout item on their menu is the **”SEVVA Lobster Roll,”** which is lavish without making your wallet weep. While you relish their artisanal dishes, take a moment to soak in the sights of the **Victoria Harbour**. Bonus points if you manage to visit at dusk when the city lights sparkle like a diamond necklace.

Amber Restaurant

If Michelin stars were candies, Amber would be the king-size bar in your pocket. Located in The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Amber is not just a feast for the stomach; it is also a feast for the eyes. With its elegant interior and a view that would leave most people speechless, this is the go-to spot for a **date night** that promises romance and delight.

Focusing on seasonal ingredients, the creative menu offers dishes showcasing **French cuisine** with an Asian twist. You won’t want to miss out on their signature dish, the “Foie Gras and Mango”— daring yet delectable. Pair your meal with one of their curated wines, and you might find yourself singing in delight!

Le 39 V

Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Tsim Sha Tsui, Le 39 V effortlessly combines the charm of a Parisian café with the vibrancy of Hong Kong. The view? It’s so good that it could melt even the toughest critic’s heart! Offering an all-day dining menu, this is a place where you can grab breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and never once have to put on shoes if you don’t want to.

The brunch menu features results that are visually stunning and taste utterly delightful, like their famous **Eggs Benny**—poached to perfection. With the laid-back atmosphere and occasional live music, it’s the ideal spot to kick back, chill out, and enjoy the good life.

H Rooftop

Want a spot that feels like a hidden gem? H Rooftop, located at the heart of **Hong Kong’s nightlife district**, is a delightful escape from the bustling streets below. The menu focuses on **local ingredients**, making the flavors unique and memorable.

Try their “Sizzling Plate” options, and revel in the theatrical presentation. Let’s just say you’ll leave with one of those “I can’t believe my eyes!” moments as the server brings it to your table. This is not just a meal; it’s a dining experience.

Final Thoughts

Rooftop restaurants in Hong Kong offer more than just a meal; they offer an experience—each plate served with a side of stunning views and a sprinkle of ambiance that will put a smile on your face. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just want to treat yourself to something nice, you’ll find your perfect perch in the sky. So the next time you’re in Hong Kong, don’t forget to reach for the sky—literally!

Italy is a whole new world, one where you can easily drown in wine, gelato and the melodic sounds of Italian answers to your English questions. Based on my six months of living in Italy, as well as 10+ trips to different parts of the country, I’ve come up with some tips to make your trip to Italy easier (although they might also rob you of ridiculous stories that could one day become conversation starters at parties).

Practical travel tips for Italy

1. Italy welcomes millions of tourists every year, but don’t expect Italians to speak English. Before you go, it’s well worth jotting down some useful phrases in Italian. Italians are genuinely flattered when a foreign visitor makes an effort to speak their language, and will open their hearts to you.

2. If you stay long-term in Italy, you’ll need a personal tax code (called a codice fiscale, something like social security number in the USA) to get access to various services, or to rent an apartment.

3. August is the worst month to visit Italy (especially after August 15) because all Italians take their vacations at that time – the roads are jam-packed, many places are closed and the beaches are crowded.

4. In many parts of Italy, regional trains (treni regionali) don’t run on Sundays. This inconvenience is usually partially covered by a local bus that stops at each town on the route (but not always at the railway station – don’t forget to ask for the actual location). So if you have to head somewhere on a Sunday, plan carefully!

5. You’ll want to take photos all the time, so getting a second memory card and a back-up battery pack for your camera is a really good idea.

6. When visiting a world-famous attraction, buy your tickets in advance if possible. Leonardo’s Last Supper in Milan, for example, can be visited only with a reservation, and tickets sell out months in advance.

7. Bring comfortable shoes. Italy’s big cities require a lot of walking to get from one attraction to the next, while in small towns streets are often made from cobblestones and are not high heel-friendly.

8. Even if you don’t have much time, spend at least one night in a small, non-touristy town. Your hallowed status as a foreigner will guarantee you a warm welcome from the locals and a deep, genuine sense of communication that is hard to achieve in the big tourist centers.

9. Most shops, supermarkets and restaurants close between 1 pm and 5 pm. On Sundays they are closed all day. My first Sunday in Italy, in a small provincial town, was marked by hunger and desperate roaming around the city in search of somewhere to buy food. I found nothing. In the end, I had two spoons of sugar (the only edible product at home) until one bar finally opened its doors at 3 pm and I filled my kitchen with croissants.

A proverb many travelers swear by!

Food and drink

10. If you eat at a restaurant, you may find two add-ons on your bill – service and coperto (cover charge). They are usually a fixed sum per person. The only region where coperto is illegal is Lazio, which includes Rome.

11. Choosing a small, family-run restaurant or trattoria two blocks away from the tourist area is the best idea 99% of the time.

12. You will recognize good gelato by its bland colors. They don’t put artificial colors or flavors in quality Italian ice-cream. That’s why banana gelato will usually look grayish rather than bright yellow.

13. If you want to try having your morning coffee the Italian way, order an espresso at the bar, gulp it down while you stand and exchange some gossip with the bartender. There’s no sitting at a table or leisurely sipping here.

14. Don’t ask for ketchup or mayo on your pizza. It is considered rude to the cook and a demonstration of bad taste. You’ll be happy to discover that Italian pizzas don’t actually need anything more.

15. Plan a visit to a food market. Most cities and towns have a weekly/monthly farmer’s market (ask at your hotel when and where it takes place) where vendors will be happy to offer you free samples of cheese, olives, bread and cookies. It is usually acceptable to bargain at these markets, especially if you plan to buy in bulk.

16. A typical Italian meal consists of antipasto, primo, secondo, contorno and dolce (appetizer, first and second courses, side dish and dessert). Italians seem to have no problem swallowing this glut of food, while a foreigner trying to compete with them will most probably be sweating and having trouble breathing by the time the tiramisu is served.

Practice dolce far niente

17. Dolce far niente (literally translated as ‘sweet doing nothing’) is the Italian concept of not hurrying, not taking anything personally, taking your time and enjoying life. It’s one of the best things you can learn from your trip to Italy.

18. Let yourself fall in love with an Italian girl/boy. Because what would a holiday to Italy be without a touch of romance?

19. Italians are famous for their transportation strikes, so allow for a few extra hours when you head to the airport.

20. Try hitchhiking in Italy. The last time I did it in Sicily, I was picked up by two lemon-growing workers who took me and my friend to the beach, even though they were not going in that direction. They were so nice that they even offered to come back later and take us to the town where we were staying.

21. It’s no use arguing with Italians about whether they did or did not invent pizza, pasta, football or fashion… Facts are powerless when it comes to national pride. Just enjoy the delight on their faces when you agree that Italy is the best country in the world!

22. Or simply forget everything and follow the wise man’s advice: visit Italy at least once a year!

The challenge: Find the best restaurant in a city you’ve never been before

Every seasoned traveler, no matter where in the world, knows how to find the restaurant where they cook delicious meals at reasonable prices. Here are a few key tips that we’d like to share with you.

Avoid tourist trap establishments

Some of them may be beautifully furnished, and the meals in others may be eatable, however, generally speaking, the restaurants in tourist areas are no good. These places are usually more expensive and offer a fusion of boring European cuisine, along with one or two hastily prepared local dishes.

Look for a full house

Once you have escaped the tourist traps, look for a restaurant that is full of people. How full could a place possibly be on Tuesday, at lunchtime? Trust me, if they cook truly well, finding a table will be a challenge.

Flip through the menu before sitting down

It’s common practice for restaurants to display their menus next to the front door. Take a look at that before getting a table. If a restaurant’s focal point is the food, then they’ll have either an interesting and diverse menu or plenty of local dishes. Quality restaurants usually offer a long list of main courses, as well as an abundance of vegetarian dishes. Meals that contain vegetables are more challenging and time-consuming to prepare. That is precisely why you’ll find mostly meat-based dishes in those restaurants where the quality of food is not emphasized. Lower-quality restaurants will usually offer barbecue or meat with some sort of sauce.

Ask the waiter for advice

Now that you have found the best restaurant in town (with special covered dinner plates or some kind of special food), your next task is to select the tastiest meal of the day. It’s best to ask the waiter for some advice. A wide smile, two gaping hungry eyes and a request for the best local dish will do. You can even go on to say that you have been looking forward to trying the country’s local cuisine for a long time now, since you’ve heard so many great things about it. Let the waiter recommend your drinks and desserts as well. If you follow this advice, you will surely enjoy a memorable meal, complemented by excellent service. Wondering why we believe so? It’s simple – everyone enjoys being asked for advice, especially in areas where they feel they are an expert. What’s more, your waiter will feel good about having the opportunity to charm you with the best dishes from his or her own country.

As you are preparing to leave, don’t forget to share your positive impressions. Express your gratitude towards the waiter and chef, while savoring a soufflé, paella, or cacio e pepe. This is going to warm their hearts more than tips, blankets, or gunfire cocktails put together. Also, you’ll get bonus points with the chance that distributes people among the great and horrible establishments all over the universe.
