Victoria Peak, known locally as The Peak, remains Hong Kong’s most iconic viewpoint and a symbol of the city’s stunning skyline. Rising 552 meters (1,811 feet) above sea level, it offers breathtaking panoramas of skyscrapers, Victoria Harbour, and the lush green hills surrounding the city.

The Peak Tram: A Historic Ride to the Top

No visit to The Peak is complete without experiencing the Peak Tram, one of the world’s oldest and steepest funicular railways. First opened in 1888, it has been modernized several times, most recently with a major upgrade in 2022, introducing new carriages and improved safety features.

The tram ride, which lasts about 7 minutes, travels along a steep gradient of up to 27 degrees, giving passengers a surreal view as Hong Kong’s skyline appears to tilt dramatically. It operates daily from 7:30 AM to 11 PM, with trams departing every 10–15 minutes.

As of 2025, a round-trip adult ticket (including Sky Terrace 428 entry) costs HKD 148 (≈ USD 19), while a standard round trip without terrace access is HKD 88 (≈ USD 11). Tickets can be purchased online or at the Peak Tram Lower Terminus near Central Station Exit J2.

Sky Terrace 428: The Highest Viewing Platform in Hong Kong

At the top, the Sky Terrace 428 stands as Hong Kong’s highest viewing platform, perched 428 meters above sea level. From here, visitors enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the city’s skyline, Victoria Harbour, and outlying islands. The terrace offers stunning photo opportunities both day and night — sunrise reveals the city awakening in soft light, while sunset and nighttime visits showcase the glittering skyline that defines Hong Kong’s global image.

Sky Terrace 428 is open from 10 AM to 10 PM (Mon–Fri) and 8 AM to 10 PM (Sat–Sun). Entry alone costs HKD 75 (≈ USD 9.50) if purchased separately.

Dining, Shopping & Attractions at The Peak

Once at the summit, visitors can explore The Peak Tower and The Peak Galleria, which host a range of restaurants, cafés, and boutiques. Dining options include Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Wildfire Pizza Bar, and Starbucks, all offering scenic views over the harbor. The Madame Tussauds Hong Kong Museum is also located inside The Peak Tower, featuring lifelike wax figures of celebrities and regional icons (entry HKD 330 / USD 42).

The Peak Galleria observation deck offers free access for visitors seeking an alternative to Sky Terrace 428, making it ideal for budget-conscious travelers.

Nature Trails and Scenic Walks

Beyond the modern attractions, Victoria Peak is surrounded by lush greenery and tranquil trails. The Lugard Road and Harlech Road loop, a 3.5 km (2.2 mile) walking trail, encircles the summit and provides panoramic views of the skyline, harbour, and Kowloon Peninsula. The walk takes about 45–60 minutes and is suitable for all ages, offering shaded paths and benches along the way.

For a more immersive experience, visitors can join guided eco-tours to learn about local flora, fauna, and the Peak’s historical significance as a colonial-era retreat.

Rio de Janeiro is home to some of the most breathtaking landmarks in the world, and Sugarloaf Mountain is among the most iconic. This granite peak, rising nearly 400 meters above the harbor, offers panoramic views that attract millions of visitors each year. Whether during the day or at sunset, the scenery from Sugarloaf is simply unparalleled.

The mountain has a rich history intertwined with the cultural fabric of Rio. It was named after the traditional shape of sugarloaf molds used in the sugar industry during the colonial period. Today, it stands not just as a natural wonder, but as a symbol of the city’s vibrant spirit.

Tourists can experience the views of Sugarloaf Mountain by taking a cable car from the base of the mountain, a ride that itself presents stunning vistas of the surrounding bay and beaches. The ascent is divided into two segments, with each leg providing unique perspectives on the landscape below.

The first cable car takes visitors to Morro da Urca, a smaller peak that is just as enchanting. This stop offers a viewing platform, where guests can enjoy refreshments and snap photos of the stunning surroundings before continuing to the summit. The final ride culminates at the peak of Sugarloaf Mountain, where the views open up spectacularly, encompassing the entire city, the Christ the Redeemer statue, and the endless Atlantic Ocean beyond.

For photographers and nature lovers, the golden hour before sunset is a magical time to be atop Sugarloaf. As the sun dips towards the horizon, the light casts vibrant colors across the landscape, creating one of the most picturesque scenes imaginable. This phenomenon draws crowds every evening, making it a must-see for anyone visiting Rio.

Beyond the sheer beauty, Sugarloaf Mountain plays a significant role in tourism for Rio de Janeiro. The influx of tourists contributes significantly to the local economy and fosters a sense of community among businesses that cater to visitors. Restaurants and cafes at the base and along the way up benefit from the constant foot traffic generated by those seeking to bask in the beauty of the surroundings.

As a result of its popularity, maintaining and preserving the area around Sugarloaf Mountain has become a priority for local authorities. Initiatives are underway to ensure that the environment remains pristine, catering to future generations of adventurers and admirers of nature. This commitment to sustainability is essential to keeping the iconic location flourishing for years to come.

In the context of the growing travel industry in Brazil, Sugarloaf Mountain remains a staple highlight on many itineraries for tourists exploring Rio. Its accessibility and historical significance make it an easy choice for first-time visitors while ensuring that seasoned travelers return to relive the magic of its views.

As we look ahead, potential developments in the tourism sector may include enhanced visitor experiences, educational programs about the region’s ecology, and improved infrastructure to manage the flow of guests. These advancements aim to elevate the experience without compromising the integrity of this spectacular natural monument.

When it comes to picturesque places, **Los Angeles** tops the list—not just for its star-studded streets but also for its breathtaking sunsets. Picture this: you’re lounging in a hip café or perhaps sipping a cocktail by the beach, and as the sun sinks slowly into the horizon, the sky transforms into a canvas of brilliant colors. I promise you, these sunset spots will leave you screaming “That’s so Instagrammable!” faster than you can say “In-N-Out.” Without further ado, let’s dive into the best **sunset views** that Los Angeles has to offer!

Griffith Observatory

If you haven’t visited the Griffith Observatory, you may want to reconsider your life choices. This iconic landmark isn’t just a place to admire the stars—it’s also the ultimate vantage point to witness the sun bidding adieu to another day. As you gaze over the sprawling city, the lights flicker on like fireflies, and the horizon sets ablaze with reds, oranges, and soft pinks. And let’s be honest: no one can resist a good panoramic shot with the Hollywood sign photobombing your sunset selfie. Just remember to bring a light jacket; once the sun drops, the chill might sneak up on you faster than a paparazzi at a celebrity wedding.

Santa Monica Pier

The Santa Monica Pier is like that infamous friend who’s always at the party—forever popular and wildly entertaining. While the Ferris wheel spins and the sound of laughter dances through the air, the beach provides a stunning backdrop for a sunset that you’d want to write poetry about. Grab a funnel cake (don’t judge) and find a spot on the beach. As the sun melts into the ocean, casting shimmering golden reflections, you might just feel like the main character in your very own romantic comedy. It’s like you’re transported right into an episode of “The O.C.” but with fewer plot twists. Just don’t forget to take off your shoes before you step into the water—trust me, soggy socks aren’t trending this season.

El Matador State Beach

If you’re on the hunt for a more secluded spot for your sunset-watching adventure, look no further than El Matador State Beach. Nestled along the Malibu coastline, this hidden gem offers stunning cliffs, unique rock formations, and a beautiful sandy beach perfect for snuggling. As the sun begins to set, the vibrant colors reflect off the water, illuminating your surroundings in a way that makes you feel like you’ve walked into a painting. Warning: the path down to the beach is a little steep and can be quite the workout. But hey, if Beyoncé can find time to stay fit, so can you! Just keep your camera ready because you’ll want to capture the moment where **nature’s beauty** meets your sheer astonishment.

Runyon Canyon Park

If hiking is your jam, Runyon Canyon Park is a must-visit. This popular destination pairs workout with breathtaking views, making it a top choice for locals and tourists alike. The trails will get your heart pumping, but once you reach the summit, all that huffing and puffing will be worth it. As the sun dips below the horizon, you’ll find that there’s nothing quite like watching the Los Angeles skyline glow as it gets enveloped in a twilight embrace. Don’t forget to take a moment to appreciate the little things, like the sound of distant city life transforming into nighttime serenity. And yes, you can definitely give your hiking buddies a thumbs-up for helping you reach that perfect sunset spot while you catch your breath.

Pfeiffer Beach

Alright, let’s get a little adventurous and venture outside the city itself. A few hours from LA, you’ll find Pfeiffer Beach, located in Big Sur. Yes, it’s a trek, but the beauty is worth every gas station snack you’ll consume along the way. The rocky coastline combined with the golden sands creates perfect conditions for a sunset that will make your heart flutter like you just spotted your crush. As the sun goes down, the **rock formations** create unique shadows and patterns that are more mesmerizing than a drum solo by Questlove. You may fall in love with the moment, but don’t forget to check your camera for battery life—it would be a travesty to miss capturing this scene!

Conclusion

As the golden hour approaches, it’s time to remember that Los Angeles boasts some of the most stunning views the world has to offer. From the heights of Griffith Observatory to the sandy shores of Santa Monica Beach, each sunset is a masterpiece waiting for you to appreciate it. Whether you’re a local looking for a new favorite spot or a visitor aiming to soak in the sights, these locations should be at the top of your list. After all, nothing says “I love life” quite like sipping a drink while the sun dips below the horizon, leaving you with a vibrant memory you won’t soon forget. So grab your friends, your camera, and create this experience for yourself! Trust me; your Instagram feed will thank you.

Porto – the second biggest city in Portugal – doesn’t often top the list of cities to visit in Europe. But while it doesn’t have a famous name like Paris or Barcelona, Porto has as much charm as any city on the continent. Here are 5 reasons why it should climb towards the top of your must-visit list:

The Harry Potter vibe

References to the story of the beloved boy wizard who captured the imagination of a generation can be found all over the city. J.K. Rowling lived and taught English in Porto for two years, and it was actually this city that inspired her to write her iconic novels.

Legend has it that the first passage of Harry Potter was written on a napkin from the famous Majestic Cafe, which Rowling frequently visited. That cafe still functions, though it’s normally full with locals and tourists trying to soak up the atmosphere of those distant days.

Another place Rowling often frequented during her Porto days was the bookshop Livraria Lello. Although often crowded, its Gothic atmosphere, beautiful wooden carvings, winding red stairs and stained glass ceiling evoke images of faraway, magical worlds. Here you can find some of the classics of Portuguese literature, which we encourage you to bring back home so you can get a better understanding of the country.

* There is an entrance fee to the bookstore (4 euro). The fee is, however, deducted from any purchase you might make.

The best Harry Potter references are the students of Porto themselves, or their academic uniforms, to be more exact. When you see them walking the streets wearing their long black robes (called traje académico), you might wonder whether they’ve just finished a class with Professor Snape. Of course, the tradition of wearing these robes is actually a lot older than Rowling’s novel and has been passed through the generations until this day.

The old town

The historic center of Porto – Ribeira – is listed as World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Now, it won’t be a surprise for you to learn that medieval buildings and cobbled streets always make me happy – thank god Europe has so many beautiful old towns to explore. This one, however, felt a little different to all the others I’ve been to; more authentic and even somewhat abandoned, but in a good way. Its beautiful tall and narrow buildings are decorated with the colored tiles typical of Portuguese, and after spending some time wandering around there’s a good chance you’ll start asking yourself: “is it really okay to stop every few minutes to admire a beautiful door, or there is something very wrong with me?”

The colors of Porto – Juan Antonio Segal/flickr

The views

Porto is a city built on hills, which means you’re in for some exhausting climbing: up and down, and up and down, and again and again… But it also makes for some incredible views of the city and the river, which winds its way through Porto. Here are some of best viewpoints in the city:

The Dom Luís I Bridge – with the picturesque Ribeira district on one side, the wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia on the other and the Douro River between them.

Ribeira – this is the perfect place to enjoy a calm evening sitting by the river, admiring the stillness of the water and the lights of the bridge above it.

Crystal Palace Gardens – this beautiful eight-hectare park also happens to be the perfect spot for watching the sunset over the river.

Clerigos Tower – where you’ll be treated with a 360-degree view from the top of a more than 250-year-old tower.

Farol Molhe do Douro – which offers views of the endless ocean and its crashing waves.

A breathtaking sunset over Porto, as seen from Crystal Palace Gardens – Nesi Zelenkova/ www.203challenges.com

The wine

Porto is famous for its sweet red Port wine, and you’ll be in heaven thanks to the wide variety of local producers to choose from. Cross one of the six bridges and you’ll end up in wine-lovers’ paradise: Vila Nova de Gaia, with its countless wine cellars, each one offering tours and tasting sessions. You can also take a cruise along the Douro River to admire the vine terraces from the water and see where your wine came from.

Barcos rabelos boats used for transporting wine from Gaia to Porto – Güldem Üstün/flickr

The food

One sentence is enough to explain just how good Porto food is: “The world needs nata!” This egg tart pastry can be found in every bakery (and there are a lot of those here), and makes for the perfect breakfast or dessert (and if you ask me, the perfect lunch, dinner or appetizer – basically a dish I’d be happy to live on for the rest of my days).

I wouldn’t mind if there were more Francesinha in the world, as well. Although bread, ham, sausage, steak, melted cheese, tomato and beer sauce, and french fries all together might sound a bit like cardiac arrest – or at least enough to render you immobile for an hour – it is one of the most delicious Portuguese meals. You should definitely try it while in Porto.

You just need nata, don’t you? – Nesi Zelenkova/www.203challenges.com

All who have seen the world from this magical place, who have felt how fragile and helpless they are before nature, they went back changed. Koncheto Ridge in Pirin Mountains, Bulgaria, is one of the most scenic mountain view your hiker’s soul can dream of. Here’s how to get there and what you should know about the hike.

Origin of the name

In Bulgarian, Koncheto means “the Little Horse”. According to a mountain story, the ridge was given this name because before the metal support rope was installed in 1963, inexperienced tourists crossed the ridge by straddling it like a horse and crawling. Is it really so scary? Take the appropriate equipment, some food and water and see for yourself.

What you will see at Koncheto

Koncheto sits at an altitude of 2800 m in the Pirin Mountains and connects the peaks of Kutelo and Suhodol. On the very edge there is a metal rope to keep you safe. At its narrowest points, the ridge is only 40 cm wide, with steep rocks on both sides. It’s useful to know that the weather here changes quickly; often it is sunny on one side of Koncheto while the other is shrouded in fog.

From Vihren mountain hut to Koncheto

A good starting point to Koncheto is Vihren mountain hut, accessible by car on a paved road 12 km from Bansko. On the way to Koncheto you can climb Mt Vihren (the highest peak in Pirin, at 2914 m), or pass along the foot of the mountain and climb it on the way back. It will take you at least 4 hours from Vihren hut to Koncheto if you climb Vihren (8 hours for the whole day). The trail from Vihren hut through Mt Vihren to Koncheto is marked with red. If you decide not to climb Mt Vihren (just so you know, the view is worth it!), take the only fork in the trail to the right following the green signs to Koncheto. The climb is difficult along both trails and the change in altitude is significant (about 1,000 m)

This route starts from Vihren mountain hut, but you can also start from Yavorov hut (5 hours one way).

Useful information

In June and August hundreds of people pass along the ridge, so be careful and patient. Keep in mind that you are in the mountains – wear comfortable clothes and bring trekking poles. In windy weather, it’s good to have a seat to attach to the metal rope. Remember, the ridge is dangerous in wet weather! If you aren’t sure of your own strength and skills, hire a mountain guide.
