Australia is famed for its relaxed vibes and outstanding natural beauty, but don’t let that fool you for a second that there isn’t a wilder side to experience. Whether it’s catching a giant wave or taking care of horrific bathroom-dwelling spiders, the Aussies know how to get that much-needed burst of adrenaline.

Before You Go

Like any other trip, you’ll need to spend time planning to get the most out of the experience. In particular, you will need an updated passport and an eVisa Australia, depending on which country you’re departing from. If you’re coming from the UK, the tourist visa is free, but make sure you double-check online well before your departure date.

Wine Country Free Fall

Wine Country is a beautiful place to visit on the ground, but switch things up and get the heart pounding by visiting Yarra Valley Skydive. This fantastic experience will take you high above the wine fields before you tandem skydive for a 60-second freefall drifting for around 15,000 feet. While accompanied by a skydiving expert, you can just focus on enjoying the 220km/ph speeds and blissful views.

Bungee Jumping by AJ Hackett

Bungee jumping is one of the most exhilarating experiences on the planet. Attached to nothing but a length of bungee cord, take a 50m leap of faith to what appears like imminent death before being pulled back into the air. The only bungee experience in Australia is Sky Park by AJ Hackett, found near Cairns, which has been around since the 80s. As well as facilitating solo jumps, you can go tandem or enter the “Xander Zone” by riding a BMX off the ledge.

Harbour Bridge Climb at Night

The Sydney skyline is a beautiful sea of lights once darkness sets in, and it’s best to experience it from a decent height. Instead of scaling up an observation tower, experience a night tour climb of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which takes you 134 meters into the air for stunning panoramic views of the city.

A Pine Forest Zipline

Head to Trees Adventure in Western Australia and head up to the treetop rope course suspended above a pine forest. The park has a series of courses depending on the difficulty level, but there’s also around 1km of ziplines, making it the perfect adventure for any thrill seeker.

Take to the Skies in a Hot Air Balloon

Calming things down a little bit now because heading up in a hot air balloon isn’t “extreme”, but it’s still well worth a spot on any thrill seeker’s itinerary. However, as you drift high about the Barossa Valley to watch the sunset, just keep in mind that you’ve only got a wicker basket between you and meeting the ground – now tell us that hasn’t reached your inner thirst for adrenaline.

If this high list of activities doesn’t fill you with excitement, then we don’t know what will. Even though there’s much more adventure to be had in Australia, you’ll find these offer plenty of thrills to get you started.
